John Carpenter composed the scores for a majority of his own films. The earlier ones mostly using only synth and drum machines.  The tracks having great titles like “potatoes” and “ice cream man on edge” and still being amazingly dark.  I know that these are just describing the scenes that the music is used for, but disconnecting yourself from Assault on Precinct 13 and just listening to “potatoes” on it’s own is a great experience.  There were a few covers of some of his compositions making a great weird darkwave-disco thing happen.
